What is Removable Dental Prosthetics?
Removable Dental Prosthetics (also known as removable dentures) are dentures that replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues, which can be taken out and put back in. This traditional dental method consists of a denture base or a metal framework (made of titanium or metal) with artificial teeth (made of porcelain or plastic) attached on top. The purpose of this method is to restore lost teeth, improve chewing function, aesthetics, and allow easy cleaning of the removable denture. This method is particularly suitable for elderly individuals whose health may not permit dental bridges or implants.
Candidates for Removable Prosthetics
Removable prosthetics are often suitable for:
- Individuals missing one or several teeth but are unable or unwilling to undergo implants.
- Individuals missing multiple teeth, especially those with alternating or posterior tooth loss.
- Individuals missing all teeth on one or both arches.
- Individuals with insufficient jawbone for implants or seeking a more cost-effective solution.
- Elderly individuals or those needing a less invasive, easy-to-use, and removable cleaning method.
Removable dentures are used when:
- The patient has lost 3 or more teeth.
- Teeth are missing but implants or dental bridges cannot yet be performed.
- Elderly individuals have lost many teeth but have insufficient jawbone for other methods.
- Prescribed by a doctor in combination with implant procedures.
